Bridge Builder Challenge

Our Young Engineers' Bridge Building Challenge

Bring engineering to life with our Meccano Bridge Challenge, a hands-on STEM experience where children design and build their own bridge using real components and practical thinking. As they construct, test, and improve their designs, they develop key skills in problem-solving, teamwork, fine motor control, and tool use, while discovering the satisfaction of turning ideas into something that works. It’s a fun, creative, and memorable way to inspire the next generation of builders, makers, and engineers.

Design it, Build it, Test it, Improve it.

Our Meccano Bridge Challenge gives children the chance to become young engineers as they create a bridge from real components, learning practical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving along the way. It’s an inspiring STEM experience that turns curiosity into confidence and ideas into achievement.

Nothing teaches like getting hands on.

Learning Outcomes

At STEM Fun, our Bridge Building Challenge brings “Real Projects. Real Tools. Real Learning.” to life.

This is not a simple play‑and‑build session. Children discover core principles of engineering as they design, construct, test and refine their own bridge from Meccano. They explore different bridge types and where they’re used, and see how shapes such as triangles and beams spread loads and increase strength.

Along the way they encounter real‑world constraints – budget, time limits and planning – and experience how these shape genuine engineering projects. They also practise communication, cooperation and shared problem solving as they work in teams to test and improve their designs.

All of this happens while they gain hands‑on experience of the full engineering cycle: plan, build, test, improve.
